Brahma Temple, Pushkar

Brahma Temple built on the banks of Pushkar is the only temple dedicated to Lord Brahma’s in India. It is just 11 kms from Ajmer. Lord Brahma is considered to be the one of the three prime Hindu Gods who is said to be the creator, preserver and also the destroyer of the Universe. This temple is very sacred for the Hindus.

There are legends attached to the formation of the temple. According to Hindu mythology there was a demon named Vajra Nabh who was destroyed by Lord Brahma using a lotus flower and when the petals of lotus fell on ground, a lake was formed named as Pushkar Lake. The temple was built in the banks of this Pushkar Lake. Another famous legend was, once Lord Brahma had come to this place to perform a sacrifice (yagna) leaving his wife Saraswati back in heaven. But for the completion of the Yagna, Lord had to sit with his wife during this pious ceremony. So he married a local girl named Gayatri. When Goddess Saraswati came to know about it, she became very angry and cursed Lord Bhrama. This is the reason why Brahma is not worshipped anywhere else other than in Pushkar Temple in Rajasthan.

The interiors of the temple are very enthralling for the visitors. The shining white marble steps, beautifully carved swans and silver archways are a stunning feature of the temple. Floor is embellished with silver coins in which the names of the donors are inscribed on it. The temple is more beautified by the sculptured peacock in it.
