Birla Temple, Jaipur
The Birla temple or Laxmi Narayan temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi and it is one of the major attractions of Jaipur-the pink city. This temple is built by the famous business family of Birlas at the foot of Moti Dungri Fort. The land was given to Birlas by a Maharaja as a token sum of just one rupee. There are many temples built across the country by the Birlas.
In1988 this temple was constructed. The temple consists of 3 domes which represents varied approaches to religion, it reflects secular ethos of the country. The architectural beauty is worth appealing and appreciating. The temple is full with the devotees throughout the day. In special occasion or festival the crowd just multiplies. You will find guides in both Hindi and English language so that it becomes easy for tourists to understand the significance of Hinduism and the temple.
The temple is made up of white marble and is a pious worship place for Hindus. Outside the temple many scriptures on numerous themes of mythology and images of saints from different religion like Christ, Buddha, Zarathustra and Confucius represents the secular nature of the temple.
Over the beam of the temples entrance there is an image of Ganesha “the protector of household” considered very auspicious. Inside the temple there are numerous images of Hindu Gods. There also is the depiction of mythological proceedings in a large panel of marble. The images of Laxmi Narayan are sculpted out of a single marble piece. Isn’t it amazing?
Near to the Birla Temple there is a small museum built by the Birlas where the object of the family and other household products are displayed for the tourists to see. There is no entry fee to visit the museum.
