Jaigarh Fort
Jaigarh Fort is situated in the top of hill popularly known as Cheer ka Teela (Hill of Eagles), it is also known as “Victory Fort” located around 15kms from Jaipur in Rajasthan. Jaigarh Fort is in the top of the hill while Amber Fort is at the bottom. However, both the forts are connected through well guarded passage. The view of the fort is very spectacular.
This Jaigarh Fort was mainly build to tighten the security of Amber and Jaipur, so you may not find this fort very artistic as the other forts, but the fort has its own charm. The fort comprises of structures from the medieval era which is worth seeing. It includes several granaries, palaces, tall tower, temples and planned cannon foundry. Jaigarh Fort served the purpose of artillery production of the Rajputs.
The major attraction of the fort is huge cannon named “Jaivan” build by the same production house of Jaigarh Fort. It is also said to be the world’s largest canon. Jaigarh Fort comprises of many wide water channels used for rain water harvesting system. In the fort there is 3 underground water tanks with the largest one having the capacity of 60, 00, 000 gallons of water.
Jaigarh Fort also has a museum with a remarkable collection of photographs, puppets, coins, buildings to explore. The armory section of the fort is full with different kinds of shields, swords, muskets, guns, 50kg cannon ball which will definitely make you travel back to the bygone era.
