Teej Festival
Festival of Teej holds great importance in the life of married women’s and young girls in Indian tradition. Though originated from land of Rajasthan, “Teej” is among the most popular and widely celebrated festivals in the entire country. According to the Hindu mythological calendar this auspicious occasion comes at the advent of the monsoon season between the month of July and August. It is the most important cultural and religious festival for the women folk of Rajasthan. The festival is devoted towards the well being of their husbands.


Also known as festival of swings and rains, women celebrate summer by singing songs and enjoying rope swings. It is the time when parents of married girls send gifts, sweets and clothes to their daughter's home. In the case of engaged girls, they receive 'Sindhara' from their "in-laws", which consists gifts and sweets. The festival is followed by keeping a day long fast in the names of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati who are worshipped with prayers and devotion. To celebrate the occasion, Girls and married women apply henna on their hands and get dressed in their best attires.
The real charm and excitement of this festival is seen in Jaipur, Rajasthan’s capital city where festival of Teej is celebrated with great pomp and show with large procession on the roads. The shower of rain on this day indicates direct blessings from the gods and is thus considered as highly auspicious.
