Mewar Festival
Mewar Festival welcomes the arrival of spring season and is centered on the city of Udaipur in Rajasthan. Udaipur is the governing place of Mewar rulers. As such the Mewar Festival is celebrated in the month of March and April with great excitement.
The festival is meant mainly for the women. The festival is very religious in nature devoted to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. To conduct the ceremony, women dress up in their best attire. The idols of gods are decorated and carried in a traditional procession covering different parts of city towards Gangaur Ghat at Pichola Lake. After that images are transported into special boats and immersed in the deep waters of lake. This long march is then followed by dancing, singing, and performing other cultural shows. Fireworks at night mark the end of this colorful festival. This becomes a breath taking view to capture in the hearts of those tourists who travel from far off land to witness culture of Rajasthan.
Udaipur is well connected by road with various cities and towns of Rajasthan. Rail network connects Udaipur with Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Chittorgarh. The city also has a domestic airport, serviced by almost all the major airlines.
