Marwar Festival, Jodhpur
Apart from being the land of sand, desert and camels, Rajasthan is largely a land of famous brave Rajput community that hail from this state of ‘Marwars’. The festival display the music and dance of the Marwar region.
Marwar Festival is celebrated in Jodhpur in memories of brave deeds of Rajput warriors and their battles in yester years. The event continues for two days on the occasion on full moon night locally known as ‘Sharad Purnima’ in the month of September- October was earlier known as the Maand Festival. There are cultural programs, performances as an attempt to enact the myths, legend and folk traditions of this area.
The location for this massive festival is the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort and the residence of the royal family of Jodhpur, Umaid Bhawan. The Marwar Festival attracts hordes of travelers from world over as the folk dancers, musicians and other renowned performers gather together at this time to put forward the tradition, culture, ritual and customs of Rajasthan in front of the world in the most beautiful and spectacular manner to entertain the audience with the Rajasthani folklore.
Jodhpur is well connected with all the major cities of India by air travel. You can also opt for direct train to this city or take road trip through network of National Highway Roads.
